Autism-Friendly Family Photography in Cranbourne

Every child deserves to feel comfortable being themselves.

At SKB Photography, I offer relaxed, child-led family photography sessions for autistic children, neurodiverse families and children with additional support needs throughout Cranbourne and Melbourne's South East.

My goal is simple: to create a calm, welcoming experience where your family can enjoy being together without pressure or unrealistic expectations. Every session is adapted to suit your child, because no two children are the same.

A photography experience designed around your child

No two children are the same, which is why every session is flexible. Whether your child needs extra time to warm up, prefers movement over posing, or communicates in their own unique way, I'll adapt the session to suit them rather than expecting them to fit a standard photography experience.

What makes my sessions autism-friendly?

Rather than following a strict shot list, I focus on creating an environment where children feel safe, comfortable and able to be themselves..

  • Child-led sessions

  • No pressure to smile or make eye contact

  • Favourite toys and comfort items welcome

  • Plenty of movement and play

  • Flexible timing when needed

  • Breaks encouraged at any time

  • Parents know their child best

  • Genuine moments over perfect poses

Why Families Choose SKB Photography

What to Expect During Your Session

Before Your Session

Before your session, I'll take the time to learn about your child, their interests, sensory preferences and anything that helps them feel safe and comfortable. Parents know their child best, so together we'll create a session that works for your family.

During Your Session

Sessions can be completely child-led. There is no pressure to smile, make eye contact or sit still. We'll move at your child's pace, take breaks whenever needed and focus on creating genuine moments rather than perfect poses. No children are the same therefore no session is the same. Sometimes we can have a session with calm music playing and minimal talking, other times we can have a full dance party. I’m all about getting your children the most comfortable and making this a good experience that they can reflect back on.

After Your Session

You'll receive a gallery of lightly edited images to choose from. Once you've made your selections, I'll carefully edit your chosen images and deliver your final gallery.

Autism-Friendly Family Photography in Cranbourne and South East Melbourne

I'm based in Cranbourne West and photograph families throughout Cranbourne, Berwick, Clyde North, Narre Warren, Botanic Ridge, Pearcedale and surrounding suburbs. I also travel for a small fee.

Do you photograph autistic children?

Yes. I regularly welcome autistic children and their families to SKB Photography. Every session is tailored to your child's individual needs, personality and comfort level. Rather than expecting children to pose or behave a certain way, I create relaxed, child-led photography sessions where they can explore, play and interact naturally. Whether your child is energetic, quiet, sensory-seeking or needs extra time to warm up, the session is adapted to suit them. My goal is to create beautiful family photographs while ensuring everyone feels comfortable, respected and included.

Can we bring sensory toys or comfort items?

Absolutely. Favourite toys, comfort objects, fidget items, headphones, snacks or anything else that helps your child feel safe and relaxed are always welcome during your photography session. These familiar items often help children feel more comfortable and can even become meaningful parts of your family's photographs. Sessions are designed around your child, not the other way around.

What if my child doesn't look at the camera?

That's completely okay. Some of the most meaningful family photographs happen when children are simply being themselves. There is never any pressure for your child to smile, make eye contact or sit still. I focus on capturing genuine connection between family members rather than perfect poses. Every child communicates differently, and those authentic moments often become the images families treasure most.
